SPS2010/Sharepoint - Query - Permissions

Can anybody tell me how to give item(Row) level and column level permission to Custom List and Document Library users in sps2010 ?

Note :   I have tried with impersonation step in workflow but it is not working ?
                Steps I have followed :
Select list permission and select “stop Inheriting Permissions” ribbon button
Go to Workflow and add Impersonation step
Replace contribute to current Item
Add View Only to “respective List

SOLUTION 1:

Row level and Column level permission can be achieved by created List Views and providing appropriate permission to list view.

Go to the List -> List Setting -> Create View , then choose a View Format.
Once you in create view page, You will get 2 sections
1.       Columns
Check the appropriate columns you want to show.
2.       Filter. (See Screen shot below) –here you give your required conditions to filter the data.
3.       Finally provide permission to this view by going to
List Setting (of this view , not the main list) -> Permission for this list(your view in this case).
Hope this would helps!!..
