Moss 2007 and sps2010 Query-Can we fetch list items and users from MOSS 2007 remote server

I have query related to MOSS 2007 and sps2010 as follows :

 

MOSS 2007 : Can we fetch list items and users from MOSS 2007 remote server just like we use Client object model in sps2010.In that case how it would be ?Please let me know the solution for the same .

 

Sps2010 : I am querying linked table  which is a custom list in sps2010 using .net code and every time I query ,It asks for the password prompt for the share point site .I want to avoid that Prompt As we need to schedule that code OR DLL in task scheduler .Let me know how we can avoid that Login Prompt while querying the linked table.
